Ruuvi Relies on Bluetooth Technology to Enable Smart Building Expansion

|

A recent article featured on staceyoniot.com took a look at how Bluetooth® member company Ruuvi is using Bluetooth technology to create building tags and gateways for Bluetooth Mesh networks.

How Ruuvi is Building Bluetooth Networks

In a number of projects, Ruuvi innovations have become a key part of other smart building solutions. According to Henri Hakunti, COO and co-founder at Ruuvi Innovations, Ruuvi is on track to see $2.5 million in revenue in 2019 as demand for its sensors grow. This is due in part to the recent release of the Ruuvi Node, a maintenance-free, open-source node solution that combines integrated GPS, environmental sensors, cellular connectivity, and embedded energy harvesting capabilities, allowing it to function for extended periods without needing to replace the battery.

As outlined on staceyoniot.com, this feature of longer battery life sets the Ruuvi Node apart from similar solutions and creates great opportunities for use in large-scale commercial applications, including corporate and enterprise environments looking to take advantage of Bluetooth based sensor data. Reportedly, as many as 25,000 Ruuvi tags have been effectively deployed across small warehouse applications and there is significant potential for the technology to scale up beyond its current uses.

The Proliferation of Bluetooth Mesh

For more than two years, a number of Bluetooth® member companies have been developing Bluetooth Mesh products. Bluetooth Mesh networking enables many-to-many (m:m) device communications and is optimized for creating large-scale device networks. Bluetooth Mesh is ideally suited for control, monitoring, and automation systems where tens, hundreds, or thousands of devices need to reliably and securely communicate with one another.

Since its release in July 2017, Bluetooth Mesh has become the clear choice for large-scale device networks. Already, more than 220 products with mesh networking capability have been qualified from leading silicon, stack, component, and end-product vendors.
