Membership Overview

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) is comprised of more than 9,000 member companies Membership within the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) is reserved at the company level. Any company incorporating Bluetooth wireless technology into products, using the technology to offer goods and services or simply rebranding a product with Bluetooth technology must become a member of the Bluetooth SIG.

Bluetooth SIG members are key to the success of Bluetooth wireless technology because they influence its direction and development. As Bluetooth wireless technology is an open platform, all members of the Bluetooth SIG have permission to use Bluetooth wireless technology in their products and services.

    Membership Levels

    There are three levels of membership - Promoter, Associate and Adopter. Each level of membership has various benefits, although all levels of membership agree to the same Membership Agreements.

    Membership is not currently open to individuals or students.

    Membership Survey

    Each year the Bluetoth SIG conducts a member survey. In 2007, the survey showed a solid satisfaction level with the Bluetooth SIG in general.

    What are the advantages of membership?

    • Royalty-free license to build products based on Bluetooth wireless technology.
    • Access to the Bluetooth specifications.
    • Licensed to use the Bluetooth word mark and logos.

    Can anyone join the Bluetooth SIG? What are the requirements?
    Membership within the Bluetooth SIG is at the company level. Therefore, any incorporated company willing to accept the Membership Agreements may join as an Adopter member company. Membership is free when joining as an Adopter.

    Does any one member company have more influence on the direction of Bluetooth wireless technology?
    The more time and effort spent by a member company developing the technology, the more likely it is that that member company will have greater influence. However, all members have the opportunity to influence Bluetooth wireless technology.
