I’m now a member of the Bluetooth SIG. What are the most important things for me to know? Membership in the Bluetooth SIG is mandatory for companies working with Bluetooth enabled products. But in addition to satisfying a requirement, membership offers a host of other benefits.
Here are three things all members of the Bluetooth SIG should know: Qualification – All Bluetooth enabled products must be properly qualified. The Bluetooth Brand – The brand may only be used in relation to qualified products and by Bluetooth SIG members. It also must be used in accordance with the Bluetooth brand book. Specification Development – Development is based upon member collaboration.
More information on membership benefits can be found at Bluetooth.org.
What services are available at Bluetooth.org? Bluetooth.org is a password-protected Web site available only to Bluetooth SIG members. A portal for working groups and committees, the site also includes organizational updates, news on industry research, information about the Bluetooth brand, tools, a calendar of events and much more. The site is available in English, simplified Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
New to the site are online training videos. From information on upcoming specifications or protocols to advanced information about programs such as the Profile Tuning Suite (PTS), the tutorials are a good complement to in-classtraining programs. Currently, the site provides tutorials on Bluetooth low energytechnology, the PTS, the Test Plan Generator (TPG), end product listings and Bluetooth SIG groups. Since becoming available in July 2008, the videos have been viewed 5,634 times (as of 21 August 2009).
Can you explain the Frontline membership benefit? Thanks to a program in cooperation with Frontline Test Equipment Inc., Promoter and Associate member companies can purchase a one-year license of the FTS4BT Wireless Bluetooth Protocol Analyzer & Packet Sniffer for US$1,000. This is a savings of US$2,495. In addition, Adopter members that upgrade to an Associate membership have the ability to receive a free one-year license.
The protocol analyzer provides communication verification and troubleshooting for wireless solutions. It helps with debugging, testing and verification cycles, which can reduce downtime and increase production.

Companies must apply online at Bluetooth.org. Once approved, SBIP members pay aUS$5,000 fee, which includes a one-year license for the PTS, two listings on the Qualified Design List (must be used within 18 months) and a three month license for the Frontline FTS4BT Wireless Bluetooth Protocol Analyzer & Packet Sniffer.
